- About the Position:
Assists the Vice President, Risk Management in the development, implementation and administration of the organizations safety program(s) to ensure a safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment by performing the following duties either personally or through additional safety personnel.
- Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Administers and manages the organization’s safety policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with local, state and federal rules and regulations.
- Plans and implements programs to train managers and employees in the organizations safety policies and procedures, utilizing an assortment of training methods, including various train-the-trainer programs.
- Conducts audits and inspections of organization facilities to detect existing or potential safety and health hazards, determination of corrective or preventative measures needed, follow-up to ensure measures have been implemented and hazards abated. Ability to train assistant and adjunct safety personnel in the duties listed above. This duty may require extensive travel.
- Directs the administration of the safety program including, regulatory reporting, accident investigations, root-cause analysis, prevention, and claim reduction management.
- Assists managers and assistant safety personnel in the procurement of safety information and interpretations via phone conversations, memoranda, safety articles, newsletters, etc.
- Represents the organization in community or industry safety groups and programs. Maintains various safety metrics, documentation, files and records.
- Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervision of assistant safety personnel through a direct and/or dot-line reporting structure. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include: interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; assigning goals & objectives; appraising performance; rewarding/disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

- Education/Relevant Experience:
Applicable college or university degree or certificate program; or four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Additional Skills:
- Ability to read, write and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, regulatory code, etc.
- Ability to write effective reports and correspondence.
- Ability to effectively speak in front of senior level management, customers and/or employees of the organization.
- Experience in presenting complex training programs to senior level management, as well as field level associates.
